Work-based Learning Services

Now more than ever it will take a village to raise our young people and provide them with career inspiration and opportunity.

Commencing in 2020, Beacon Foundation partnered with the Department of Education, Children and Young People., Tasmania to pilot the Vocational Placement Pilot Program (VPPP) in the North and North West of Tasmania. The VPPP connects schools and industry so students have the opportunity to experience work-based learning and gain skills for life. In many circumstances they also get a job that will set them up for life.

We thank the State Government for their support of this important work with the program now receiving further funding to service more schools across Tasmania in 2022 and 2023 as Beacon Foundation Worked-based Learning Services.

This program is a great way to offer students a placement and get involved in work-based activities for students in your community.

Together with industry, we are successfully finding Vocational Education Training (VET) placements for Tasmanian students in Years 11 and 12. Whilst also working with Years 9 and 10 to provide work-based learning opportunities.

If you’re an employer and not already part of the village it is definitely time to join.

“Working with Beacon benefits our business by showcasing our trades to students, so they understand what career pathways we offer before committing to an apprenticeship. Work placement allows us to see the student operate in a real-world environment to ensure they are the correct fit for our business. Partnering with schools allows for industry guidance and contribution to student work preparation.”

“Strong relationships with our diverse industry partners provide the opportunity for students to implement skills and knowledge they are learning in their VET program, in a real-world environment.”
