Leave a bequest

A bequest (also known as a legacy) is a gift of money or assets that you leave through your Will. Bequests provide vital support to Beacon and the young people, schools and communities we work in.

By leaving a Bequest in your Will you are helping provide meaningful futures for young Australians.

How to arrange a bequest
We suggest you speak with a solicitor to either create a Will or update your current Will to include a Bequest. It won’t take long to do yet the difference you’ll make will help change futures.

By having a valid Will, you can ensure what you own goes directly to the people and causes you care about.

There are different types of bequests. The most common are:

  • Residuary Include a percentage of the remainder of your estate once you have provided for friends and family. Even a small percentage will make a difference to the future of Beacon and the young people, schools and communities we support.
  • Percentage Specify what percentage of your estate you’d like to leave to Beacon as a bequest.
  • Specific (pecuniary) Specify an amount of money, real estate, stocks and shares etc.

Wording for your Will
Below is the most effective wording to include a bequest to The Beacon Foundation in your Will. Please take this with you when you visit your solicitor.
“I give, free of all duties and taxes *____ to The Beacon Foundation (ABN 42 129 090 464) of Level 1, 40 Molle Street, Hobart, Tasmania 7000 for its general purposes. An authorised receipt from Beacon Foundation will be a sufficient discharge for the executor(s) or trustee.”

*insert either:

  • The whole (or …%) of the residue of my estate.
  • The whole (or … %) of my estate.
  • The sum of $ (amount).
  • (Details of a particular asset — such as shares or property).
