Beacon connecting students with growth industries to create a job-ready generation

Beacon is working with some of Tasmania’s fastest growing industries to inspire students through their Growth Industry Preparation Program (or GrIPP).

Beacon CEO, Scott Harris, said the program aimed to create a win-win situation, where growing businesses are able to showcase their industry and young Tasmanians are able to see and understand their options for getting a great job.

“The Growth Industry Preparation Program (or GrIPP) shows students what opportunities there are for them in five of the fastest growing industries in Tasmania,” Mr Harris said.

“There are huge opportunities in aged and community services, building and construction, tourism and hospitality, advanced manufacturing and food production industries for young Tasmanians.”

“Today, students from Cosgrove High School are engaging with the amazing staff at Lady Gowrie Tasmania to understand just what working in this sector really looks like.”

“There are so many career opportunities out there for young Tasmanians, and often all it needs is an introduction to a particular industry or business to set someone on a rewarding pathway.

“Beacon’s programs are delivered face-to-face by professional facilitators with the support of volunteer business mentors.  We’re helping students learn valuable skills in an environment that you just can’t replicate in the classroom.”

Mr Harris said if other businesses would like to get involved in helping young Tasmanians access careers in their industry they can reach out to Beacon at
